My name is Nicola Miles and I began taking dance lessons at the age of four. I gained so much pleasure from these classes that I began to attend more and more classes every week. From a young age I decided that I wanted to teach dance as I wanted to give others the same opportunity to enjoy dance that I had been given. After many years of dance training I trained as a dance teacher and opened my own dance school.
I teach the Royal Academy of Dance Ballet Syllabus and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Tap, Modern and Jazz Syllabus. I enter children for all levels of graded examinations from Pre-Primary and Primary to Grade 8 and all levels of vocational examinations from Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2 for those who want to take their dance classes a little more seriously. Children who do not wish to take exams are also allowed to progress through the levels. Their classes are based on the examination syllabi as these ensure the continuous progression of their dancing. I also train children for competitions and shows.
My sister Catrin recently graduated from Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance with a degree in Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Catrin began dancing before she was 3 as she was desperate to start dance classes after taking me to classes each week. She studied Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz dance and has passed all her exams from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2 with excellent marks. She also studied Contemporary dance as an associate of the National Dance Company of Wales (previously called Diversions Dance Company) prior to studying at Rambert School where she studied for a degree in ballet and contemporary dance. Catrin is studying for her dance teacher qualifications.
